Soon Come

I didn't even finish my last post. I signed up for this account and started a post about how I was excited to begin playing out again but as usual there was too much to be done so I just dropped it. I had to make CD labels, burn CDs and finish an impromptu business card before I played at Needlepoint. I promised Gomez(the promoter) that I would bring a bunch of CDs to give away.

The party was fun mostly because I was glad to play out for the fist time in over a year. Andy and Kev One were both very cool and great hosts, and I met Brian Porterfield from Chicago who played great music and was surprised to hear a lot of the old stuff that I was playing. I decided that I would play some of the best in my collection since I'm trying to compile some of my best records for a new mix CD. Anyway Brian was the only one I've met who identified "The Winding Song", a track I always play because of the ultra funky 95 North remix on the b-side. I happened to play a lot of Chicago stuff too--all of which Brian was very familiar with; It was nice to talk to someone about music again; Typical of San Diego the party was slow. I guess Gomez and Kev have been busting ass trying to get people to come out but the party is in La Jolla--a town here that is very superficial due to all the rich folks--it's a beautiful beach-side town but it has no soul.

Anyway here I go again. I've finished the brand identity for messenger music; this took a long time since I had to have the logos look just right. I think I tried 50 different versions before I decided on two. I wanted to create a custom font but that proved to take too much time; eventually I found a great font that worked perfectly.I'll post the logos and maybe some of the prototypes very soon.

I've already started coding my pages and hope to have the beta up soon. All I will do at first is have a splash page followed by a sample of the home page interface. When you log in to the site you will be directed to a scrolling links page so it will be easy on the eyes and simple to use. The idea is to help others find the good stuff. Later we'll have articles, mixes, news / links submissions by our panelists, a gig trade network(an idea I had to accelerate the task of trading gigs with DJs from other towns who hold residencies or promote their own night.I think this is the best way to get your name out there and it's a reciprocal method since you have to have some shit going on to collaborate. Djs already do this on their own,"hey why don't you come down and play at my club and I'll play at yours." I'd also like to do the same thing with producers who may want to trade remixes.

That's it for now; if you're reading this and you're interested in collaborating or just want more info email me.
